Gold Star breaks through

With three runners in the $70,000 Class 3 race over 1400m on Friday night, it was Gold Star and Filibuster who fought out the finish, with the ever consistent Gold Star getting the upper hand in the last 100m to beat his stablemate, with the third runner Diamond Beauty not far away in fourth.

With Filibuster making the runner in a slowly run race, the small nine-horse field turned for home as a bunched group. At the 300m JP Van der Merwe let rip on Filibuster, and with Quarterback coming hard out wide, it looked momentarily that those two would fight out of the finish.

However, Gold Star with Patrick Maloney on board burst through a small gap at the 200m, and showed a great turn of foot to win by half-a-length. It was Maloney’s 5th winner in Singapore, with three of these being supplied by the Brown stable.

Gold Star with Patrick Maloney burst through for a well deserved victory.

Gold Star, a four-year-old by Redente was a private purchase made by Cliff from Bendigo trainer Rod Symonds and has been a model of consistency. He has been unlucky in a lot of runs, actually finishing second, in 4 of his last 5 races. With last nights win, he has now scored three wins, five seconds and one third from 13 starts for stakes earnings around the $180,000 mark for the Gold Stable.

The win continued a good run for long time stable clients Gold Stable, who were landing their 4th win in season 2020 from the Brown Stable. Eugene Yong, Meehim Yong and Yong Nam Seng make up Gold Stable, and have supported the stable for the past 10 years. Their new Swiss Ace gelding has arrived in Singapore and will be in the stable on Monday, and we look forward to him carrying the famous gold and red diamonds silks.
