The first weekend of October racing saw the stable rack up a double, as well as 4 seconds from the nine runners. On Friday evening the consistent Ararat Lady returned to the winners stall in the class 4 1200m division 1.
“That was a tremendous win for a good group of owners (Jass Stable). It’s also good for the staff,” said Cliff. The race panned out nicely for her. She is a very genuine mare.”
Michael Rodd said the return to a class which was more up Ararat Lady’s alley was the main winning factor. Using the coveted barrier 1, Rodd kicked up on the inside to secure a position in the leading group with a nice tempo. Turning for home, with 4 across the track, Rodd stoked up the daughter of Battle Paint and she responded well, kicking clear by 3 lengths and setting up a winning break over the heavily supported Lim’s Zoom.
With that third win from nine starts, Ararat Lady has now chalked up close to $130,000 for the Jass Stable.
On Sunday 6th, after seconds with Gold Kingdom and Gold Strike, long time stable clients Gold Stable finally had a change of luck when outsider Lohnro Gold jumped straight to the front and was never headed in the class 3 1000m. Ridden superbly by JP Van Der Merwe, Lohnro Gold was un fancied in the betting, having finished last at his previous outing and also had to contend with the outside barrier of 11.
A horse that has to lead, and can lose interest when he doesn’t (as he did last start), Lohnro Gold begun like a shot out of a gun from barrier 11 and Van Der Merwe had him sitting outside Cousteau. From there the two set an even tempo. At the 300m Lohnro Gold had fought off Cousteau, but had to contend with a late challenge from race favorite Kiss Your Song. With Van Der Merwe riding hard, the son of Denman proved to strong to score by 1/2 a length.
Lohnro Gold was a $40,000 purchase from the 2016 Inglis Ready To Race Sale, and has now earned a tick over $261, 500 for connections.
