Exciting three year old filly Filibuster returned to her best form with a fantastic win in the Class 3 over 1100m on Friday 15th. Given a break by Cliff after two devastating all the way victories, Filibuster resumed with a 5th placing on March 4th, before tackling Group 2 company in the first leg of the three year old series.
Her last start showed that she was returning to form with a close up 5th, only being beaten 1.5 lengths in a class 3 over 1000m after being taken on the whole way. Winkers were added for Friday’s race, which was well spaced being a little over a month since running over the 1000m.
Jockey Craig Grylls took the ride on Filibuster, and after jumping from the awkward 8 gate, it momentarily looked like that powerful daughter of Ilovethiscity may not get to the lead with those drawn inside her kicking up strongly. However, a brilliant tactical move by Grylls to forge on and take the lead, albeit doing a bit of work, saw Filibuster cross the field and sit in front as the field passed the 800m mark.
Never getting a moments peace in front courtesy of Benny Woodworth on Wonderful Knight, Filibuster straightened in front, and showing her customary change of gears quickly putting paid to Wonderful Knight. With tremendous heart Filibuster powered away, when she could of thrown in the white towel, and had a length to spare over Charger who came rattling home from back in the pack to grab second.
With her 3rd win from only 6 starts, Filibuster took her earnings to over $118,000 for her group of owners headed by Manager (and breeder) Mark Chadwick. Filibuster will now have a short break, before returning in the second half of the season. It was Mark’s second win in a week, after Tales Of Summer saluted on the previous Sunday.
