Consistent mare gets deserved win

Four year old mare Gold City gained a well deserved win when taking out the last race on Sunday 2oth. A third and two second place finishes from her last three starts, the Gold Stable owned mare was certainly overdue for a change of luck.

Stepping up to 1800m and ridden by Michael Rodd the daughter of New Zealand sire Sufficient had shown with excellent last sectionals in previous runs, that an increase in distance should be of no concern. Michael Rodd never had the leaders out of his sight in running, and when John Powell made a lightning move around the field on O’Reilly’s Dancer at the 1000m, the pace went on.

At the top of the straight, Rodd steered Gold City into the clear and she quickly began to loom up to the break away leaders. In the last 200m she showed terrific acceleration and out gunned her rivals to win by a length, beating O’Reilly’s Dancer who had set the race up for her with the mid race move. It was a welcome win for long time stable clients Gold Stable, who had Gold Reward run third the previous Friday.

Some Australian guests of Michael Rodd were on hand to witness the win and thoroughly enjoyed joining in for the winning photo, and a glass of champagne in the winners room after the race.
