Long time stable client Gold Stable’s consistent three year old Gold Reward collected his first victory after notching up 3 seconds and 2 thirds from his 5 career starts. A very short priced favorite, Gold Reward was having his second run this preparation in the 1600m maiden on Sunday 10th September.
With an excellent first up second and the addition of blinkers, the stable were very confident that Gold Reward would open his account. With stable rider Michael Rodd on board, this assessment seemed well founded as Gold Reward settled 4th in the running, and then on straightening quickly surged to a clear lead early in the straight.
Still learning his craft, Gold Reward began to coast in the last 100m, allowing the charging pack to get very close, but responded well to Rodd’s urging to hold out the challenges and record a well earned win. Rodd commented after the race that Gold Reward has a great deal of ability, but is still relatively inexperienced when it comes to putting it all together on race day.
Further racing should see Gold Reward fulfill his potential, after his confidence boosting win. With the ability to quicken over a short distance, he has the versatility to be ridden close to the pace, or take a sit and unleash a powerful finish. The win was a welcome change of luck for Gold Stable who have recently had other Gold Stable horses Gold Crown, Gold Hill, and Hot Gold notch second place finishes.
