New owners King Power Stable enjoyed their second victory in Singapore when Augustano proved to strong in the class 4 over 1200m on Sunday September 10th. Having chalked up his first win for his new Thai owners in a restricted maiden on August 20th, Augustano made it back to back wins taking his record to a now impressive 4 starts for 2 wins and a second and over $90,000 in stake money.
With stable rider Michael Rodd unable to make the weight on race day, Manuel Nunes proved a more than capable replacement. The concern going into the race was that Augustano had drawn the outside barrier, however with a fast break from the gates Nunes had Augustano in the lead after going 200m. From there the leading rider of the past two seasons rated the son of Hard Spun perfectly and on straightening he went for home and quickly dashed clear setting up a winning break which he held to the line for a most impressive victory.
On hand to enjoy the victory was racing manager Vichit Pongsriiam, whilst other connections watched the race from overseas. With seven horses in the stable and some well bred horses among these, King Power Stable can look forward to some exciting times ahead as their crop of horses mature and are placed to advantage by the stable in the coming months.
