Super consistent 5 year old Nadeem gelding, Certainly broke through with a stirring win in race 5, the class 3 over 1800m. Backing up quickly from a close up 4th on Sunday 30th July, Cliff decided to engage Hong Kong apprentice C Poon to take advantage of his 2kg claim.

Riding perfectly to instructions, Poon had Certainly positioned nicely during the run in 4th, never letting the leaders out of his sights. With the knowledge that Certainly produces a short sharp sprint, Poon nursed Certainly in the straight before giving the big boy full boar at the 250m mark. There was a moment of concern as Certainly got caught behind a slowing horse, but once around this horse he steamed home out wide to catch Duke Of Normandy right on the line.

The victory was not only great reward for Apprentice Poon who has a 2 week riding stint in Singapore, courtesy of being leading apprentice in Adelaide last season, but reward for Cliff’s decision to back Certainly up quickly from last start.

Certainly was purchased by Cliff at the Inglis Ready to Race sale in 2014, and has been a model of consistency for Auric stable, now having finished in the first 4 in 19 of his 25 starts, with 4 wins and 7 seconds, and over $280, 000 in stake money.
